Dairy Today ranks Ogallala Aquifer region as a top growing dairy region An article in Dairy Today’s November/December 2002 Elite Producer ranked dairy areas in Idaho, the I-29 corridor, the Indiana/Ohio/Michigan tri-state region, and the Ogallala Aquifer area which includes western Kansas. The Ogallala region was deemed to have an advantage in ease of permitting and regulations, community acceptance, feed quality and costs over other regions. It also received higher marks for land availability and cost, water availability and costs, utility costs and taxes compared to other regions. Within the article, existing Kansas producers acknowledged the abundant labor supply as a valuable asset.
